The Wedding Photographer part 2

Seems like me site is gonna be up soon! Yipee!!! Hugs and kisses to Aver!

More ramblings about going into wedding photography.......

Seems like it is more or less my calling to become a wedding photographer.... my "Divine Purpose?"

Sounds crazy but when you have Oracle cards telling you the same things over and over again....it tends to stick in your head too. I have always enjoyed making people feel pretty and good about themselves..... not necessarily in that order......lolx, but never have i thought about shaping it into a career.

Bought a book by Steve Sint with the title of "Wedding photography: Art,Business and Style" from Kino yesterday. Was reading it on the train after sending Aver home and found an article inside that was rather interesting.

The Author when he was young was so into photography that he wanted to become a Professional photographer in the worst possible way but never had much luck. There was once he happened to meet a "big shot" in the industry and was given this piece of advice: "Do wedding photography!" This offended Mr Sint but it made sense! Alot of photographers started out with zeal and wanting to be creators of big magazine spreads or wanting to cover major events in history...... becoming that "fly on the wall" that is the world's eye in the events that change the world. This however is unrealistic. You have no experience, no money, no patience and also no equipment!

Wedding photography however is regular work.

You gain experience shooting under all kinds of conditions including dark hallways and gloomy Gothic churches.

You are paid decently well if you know how to market yourself.

You have to wait for the perfect shot to happen in weddings...training your eye for details and patience in the process.

The steady flow of work means you will have the means to gest the equipment you lusted after and do not need to wait for a miracle to get them. As if camera, lenses and lights will drop from the sky.......

People tend to have negative perceptions about wedding photographers in comparison to people who do fashion spreads, wildlife, food photography etc. In fact, it can be an art form if you put your mind and soul into it.

Another article from the book was going on about how the photographer was in a cab( taxi in Singaporean terms.) and rushing to a wedding shoot. The cab driver saw the equipment and got curious and asked Mr Sint what he was shooting and where . Of course, we all know what his answer will be..... I am rushing to shoot a wedding and it is in XYZ hotel. The cab driver turn around and in a scornful tone said: "You know what? I am a photographer too but I can never bring myself down to shoot weddings!"

Hmmmm...... rather thought provoking I must say. Alot of "arty" photographers think that way too.

The ultimate punchline in this story was when the author thought to himself: " And I can never Bring myself down to driving a cab too."
