We as human being often fear what we do not understand. We fear the unknown. We fear something that is different. We are slow to adapt to changes. Why do u think it took us so long to evolve from tree swinging primates to the techno geeks of today?When fire was first "invented" , we fear it because it was destructive and virtually uncontrollable. We were won over by the fact it keep us warm and help us get get rid of that terrible stench of blood in the mouth. Not a good way to impress on a first date,definitely.
Human beings are often skeptics untill proven otherwise. Sometimes , we even refused to accept possibilities even if it is backed by facts as it goes against what we are comfortable with. When Christopher Colombus set off to explore new lands, the world was thought to be flat and that this weirdo will just sail to the edge of the world and fall off the edge. We do not dare to step out of our comfort zone as it will challenge the notions and values that were inbuilt into us by our society and our ancestors. Sigmund Freud calls this the "SUPEREGO" and he is right to coin the phrase. Our ego gets so big sometimes that it is super hard to penetrate and change.
The main causes of war has for many times been a lack of tolerence towards cultures we do not understand. We fear the unknown and we do nothing to get to know it better. FEAR!!! A 4 letter word that echoes thru the halls of time and one that does not stop ringing in your ears. The fight or flight syndrome..... when we feel threaten , what do we do? We fight or run!!! Is there not an alternative to that ?
Animals joust for the right to mate. The right to claim supremacy over their territories and keep the clan together and safe. We start wars to claim more finiancial benefits by stealing another country's riches by accusing them of being a threat to world peace and nuke them if they refuse to cooperate. Is that the path the Earth is heading to? Total destruction?
We learn from history that Man never learns from History. We keep making the same old mistakes over and over again....... for what ? Fear and stubborn pride ! Why can't we just put aside our differences and stop harming each other? Violence does not bring about peace. It only brings more violence.
On a smaller scale, human beings competitive as we are are just so caught up in the race for supremacy that we fight among ourselves. Siblings fight each other for their parent's attention when they are young. We want to outshine each other. Make the other party look bad but we forgot the most important point of all....... Love........ do you not love them? Hatred itself is a by product of not opening your heart enough to love. Why do we harm those we love? Open up your hearts and minds to find love. Love can change the world so it can definitely change your life. In times of tragedy, we all bundle together to find comfort in the arms of strangers but why wait for something horrible to happen to show your love.
Get rid of your self doubt,open your heart. Kill jealousy and actively seek to stamp out fear.It makes the world a much better place to live in.
